Crusader Kings II: Ironman Ireland Playthrough - Part 1

1066

Character
Earl Murchad Ua Chinnselaig (41, Married)
Earl of Dublin
Heir to the County of Leinster (Held by my Father)

3 Sons (2 Young, 1 19 Year old Heir)

Got Son Married and other 2 betrothed.
Brought Allies in Petty Kingdom of Gwynedd and hopefully in Kingdom of France and Duchy of Provence (within the HRE).
Set my ambition to increase stewardship

Council is fairly low level at this point, set them to passive jobs (build research levels, improve relations with the Pope, etc.)

1067

Almost immediately (March 24th) I inherit the county of Leinster from my father and get the alert that my two titles will be split up on succession - I make it my goal to get rid of Gavelkind succession as quickly as possible.

With the added strength of County Leinster I can now outclass several of the surrounding counties. I make it my goal to fabricate a claim on County Kildare and take it, then I could make the Duchy of Tara (known as the Duchy of Meath under non-Irish rule).

In October I give the order for a Grand Hunt to be organized in Dublin. I see a 'mighty stag' but 'Spare its majesty' and gain the Kind Trait. I have a horse break a leg and have to end its suffering, gaining 10 Piety. Then the hunt ends (10 more prestige).

1068

My son and Heir (Domnall) is looking to kill his younger brother for being the Heir to the County Leinster, better get Gavelkind Succession out of here quick. Changing Succession Law to Primogentiure (Oldest Male -or female if no other males -inherits all titles).

My Son (Heir) Domnall's wife died after they had 1 daughter. I was able to betroth him to a 15 Year Old Princess of England, so in a year we should trade our Alliance to the Petty Kingdom of Gwynedd with an Alliance with the Kingdom of England.

1069

I gained the charitable trait from an interaction with a traveling troubadour.

The Earl of Breifne fabricated a claim to the County of Dublin, I doubt he'll use it though as he can't quite match my armies.

The English are winning their war with the Duke of Normandy but loosing their war with the Kingdom of Norway. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

The Norman Conquest of England failed, now hopefully England can focus on the Norwegian Invasion of England and turn that tide.

The Holy Roman Empire has setup an Anti-Pope (Benedict X).

We gain a strong claim to the County Kildare, I want to do a little more building up (and possibly see if the English survive) before I act on the claim.

1070-1071

I raise my levy to help the English, I was able to attack an win against a few small armies and lift the Seige of Lancaster, but unfortunately it wasn't enough and by October 1071 the Norwegian crown was lord of England.

1072

Norway is having a revolt in England and France looks like it may loose Normandy to the Bretons. I returned my levies and are building them back up, once that is done the plan is to take County Kildare and start us on the path to hopefully uniting Ireland.

England (or at least most of it) breaks back away from Norway, three duchies are still part of Norway

1073

Spent the year building and watching the French/Breton War

1074-1075

Attacking County Kildare in the Dubliner Claim on Kildare War.

After attacking their main army we seiged the County successfully and turned around to break their pitiful siege on Dublin - at that point they had enough and conceded. The war lasted from about June 1074-August 1075.

Earl Murchad Ua Cheinnselaig (me) declares himself the Petty King of Tara (Duchy).

1075 Status

We have risen from a single County (Dublin) to become the Petty King (Duke) of Tara, lord of 3 counties in southeastern Ireland.

I am 50 Years old so hopefully I have plenty of time to continue this fruitful reign, our levies are 50-100% more than most of our neighbors and we could hopefully move a county or two closer to uniting the island before we pass our succession on to our Son.

Elsewhere in the British Isles, England and Scottland (along with England and the Duke of Mercia) are fighting. Hopefully this instability stays for a while as it would make taking the Welsh states (after becoming the King of Ireland in hopefully 2-3 generations) a lot easier.

Our Allies in France seem to be slowly turning the tide against the Bretons, and our other Ally, the Duke of Provence seems to have gained his independence (the HRE lost Tuscany as well, that was probably a fun one). Also Denmark and Sweden are in the middle of big revolts.

Next time I will hopefully see Murchad off to a successful end of his reign by absorbing a county or two more before passing the Petty Kingdom over to my son.

  1. I just bought the Steam version of the game and it is showing weird names of counties and characters. For example Dubbhlin instead of Dublin and anyone outside of England has names that I can't pronounce. I know my version is different because when you look up youtube vidoes of others playing the game you see "Dublin" and somewhat regular names.

I ask you this because Dublin is considered a good starting point and others on youtube had different character names, more normal ones. Mine had what yours had "Murchad Ua Chinnselaig ". I hope this makes sense and if you have any suggestions that would be great. Thanks
