Pokemon Crystal: Playthrough Part 2

Another Badge and some exploration of the Unown...

Last Time we started our Journey up to the first badge, now it's on to the Union Cave and more adventure!

Before heading off to the next town, we stopped by the Ruins of Alph and solved one of the puzzles to get our first encounter with the Unown! I was able to capture 7 of them (A, C, D, E, F, K, O & Y I think) before I was out of money and PokéBalls. I'll have to come back when I can Surf and get to the rest of the puzzles.

Time to enter Union Cave after battling a couple more trainers and wild Pokémon on the route up to the cave. My mom was nice enough to buy me a Super Potion with some of my saved money.

I battled all the Trainers and many wild Pokémon in the cave and just before we left Togepi came out of its Egg! 

We get to the next town only to have to go down into another cave, this time it's the Slowpoke Well and something is fishy!

Team Rocket has returned and they are torturing the Slowpoke! I was able to beat them pretty easily however.

Next I hit the Pokémon gym and faced Bugsy, as his name suggests he uses Bug Pokémon so my Quilava was able to clean house pretty quickly.

After the Gym I went to move on but Gold stopped me for another battle, I had some trouble with his Crocnaw (had to heal Quilava) but eventually beat him.

After a quick healing at the Pokémon center, it was off to the Ilex Forest. I added Metapod, Kakuna, Oddish and several other Pokémon to my PokéDex to go with those I caught back in Union Cave.

I found the Cut Specialist's Farfetch'd and he gave me HM01 (Cut) which I taught to Bellsprout (who also knows Flash, kinda my HM mule for now).

One of the best new features for Gold/Silver/Crystal over the original games was that you didn't have to always go to the Pokémon menu to choose to use an HM, if you just go up to the thing you want to interact with you will be offered.

We made it through the Ilex Forest and past the trainers on the way to Goldenrod, just before the town is the Daycare center where you can leave up to two Pokémon to train while you do other things - if they are male & female and compatible they might also produce an egg. Pokémon breeding was a new and awesome addition to the 2nd Gen Pokémon games.

I explored around Goldenrod and faced some trainers in the underground but wasn't able to go any further, I must have to come back... it's been a while since I played these :)

I did find the Bike Shop and picked up a Bicycle.

And went to the Radio Station to get a Radio Card (had to take the quiz twice, stupid backwards double negative questions! :)

I also went to the Park, and since it's Tuesday they were holding a Bug Catching contest. Unfortunately my Hopip feinted before I could catch anything but I did go back into the park and grab a few Pokémon like Spinarak and Venonat.

Next up is the Goldenrod Gym, if I remember correctly they use Normal Types and since I don't have any fighting types I might have a tough time - but my Quilava is pretty strong so I should do okay.

My Party before facing the Goldenrod Gym, I also have a Bellsprout I use for Flash/Cut but he's in the computer right now.

That's all for now, I'm really only about 6 hours in (the emulator I'm using adds a bunch of time) and having a blast reliving the story-line!
