Pokemon Crystal: Playthrough Part 5

We got Fly and Surf, time to circle back and explore!

Last Time we grabbed the fourth and fifth badges and now have Fly, Strength & Surf - it's time to circle back and explore!

I grabbed the Hoothoot I caught a while back out of the computer and taught him Fly, now we can quickly go back to places we have already been!

One of the first places I returned to was the Union Cave (near Violet City). Now that we have Surf there are several areas in the cave that open up, but it's not Friday so Lapras isn't here to catch...

I did find an exit to a back part of the Ruins of Alph, I solved the Omanyte puzzle and caught several more Unown types.

Another secret exit in the Union cave got me to another part of the Ruins of Alph (and some grass where I caught a Natu). I solved the Ho-Oh puzzle and caught even more Unown types.

Back to the front of the Ruins of Alph and some Surfing got me to the final Ruins of Alph puzzle, Aerodactyl. I solved it and unlocked all the Unown types - now I just have to catch them all!

Eventually I got all the Unown variations (26) and the Scientist gave me access to a machine to print them our (don't have a GameBoy Printer on this emulator though...)

I headed back to the Slowpoke cave and caught a Slowbro and Slowpoke, also got a King's Rock but I don't have anyone to trade with to get Slowking...

Outside Goldenrod I surfed along the beach and found a secret hideaway with three trainers, beat them and got a nugget. Also surfed to a tree with a MysteryBerry north of Goldenrod.

Leaving Goldenrod I entered the Bug Catching contest and caught a pretty nice Beedrill!

I traded the Beedrill for a Scyther who was one level lower but still got a better score.

I also caught a Butterfree but although it was a level higher than my Scyther it wouldn't get a better score so I kept the Scyther.

I won the Bug Catching Contest! Got a Sun Stone as a prize.

Surfed outside Mt. Mortar to grab some Apricorns I knew of and spotted Suicune again!

I explored some in Mt. Mortar but was blocked by a waterfall - I don't have that HM yet!

Time to head back to Olivine to take on the Gym, I've been training up my Hoothoot to join my main party, I don't think I'm going to have much trouble with Jasmine but I have been playing for a while now so it will have to be tomorrow!

I'm about 24 hours in now (the emulator I'm using adds a lot of time) should see some new badges and evolutions next time!
